GRIPP AND CONCERT OF PRAYER HISTORY
June 8, 1994 A
luncheon with Dr. Ray Bakke sponsored by Norris
Aldeen at the Golf Course discussing the need of
cities
August 16, 1994 A meeting
in the Council Chambers at City Hall with Dr.
Ray Bakke, Alderman, Clergy, other City leaders
and the Rockford Leadership Foundation. Dr.
Bakke spoke on the critical needs of cities and
what must be done to renew them.
Inspired by the Evangelical Free
Church of America’s National Prayer Accord, Bob
Griffin asked Pastor Sam Mayo of First Assembly
of God and Pastor Steve Bland of Pilgrim Baptist
to meet for quarterly prayer meetings. They
would pray for the revival of the Church and for
healing in the city.
1. February 1995 First
Evangelical Free Church, Pilgrim Baptist and
First Assembly of God met for a Concert of
Prayer at Pilgrim Baptist. The Church was packed
and people were turned away. A reporter for the
Rockford Register Star was there and the
following morning the meeting was reported on
the front page of the paper.
2. April 1995 The
three congregations met at West Middle School
for a prayer meeting
3. August 1995 The three
congregations met at Summerwood for a prayer
meeting
4. September 1995 A Pastor’s
Breakfast was held at House of Refuge Church to
promote city-wide Concerts of Prayer. Sixty
Pastors attended. A multi-racial steering
committee was formed because of widespread
interest in quarterly prayer meetings for the
revival of the Church and for the healing of the
city. Bob Griffin told the story of the prayer
meetings on a video, which was presented to the
Pastors while Bob was in the Orient speaking.
The first City-wide
Concert of Prayer was held at West Middle School
on Oct. 15, 1995
At the 25th
Concert of Prayer on Oct. 4,
2002 at the Coronado Theater, The Regional
Church crowned Jesus
King and Lord in a litany of praise
The Steering
Committee for Concerts of Prayer disbanded after
the 25th meeting.
Pastor Ja Monthly GRIPP
(Greater Rockford In Prayer and Praise) gatherings began
in January
2003--meeting the third Friday of each month. IN
OCTOBER 2007, GRIPP MOVED TO THE FIRST THURSDAY
NIGHT OF EACH MONTH TO ALLOW MORE OF GOD'S
PEOPLE TO ATTEND. In 2009, a special team was
formed to organize three AREA-WIDE CONCERTS OF
PRAYER, the first Thursday of Februaray, May--The
National Day of Prayer, and September.
